Layla Gijsen graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in ‘23 and is an Amsterdam based conceptual artist and designer as well as a graphic designer, illustrator, DJ and analog printmaker.

The distinctive two-dimensional language she developed over the years by printmaking immediately translates back into her three-dimensional design and art pieces. In her work, Layla draws inspiration from a changing city and from the playfulness and creativity that she experiences in the alternative scene in Amsterdam.

As a young and innovative maker, she keeps finding new ways to create a meeting point between conceptual art and social design while making usable and playful art objects that delve deeper in societal elements like the struggle for space and social constructs. She has previously show her work in  places like the Rijksmuseum, Dutch Design Week, de Bijenkorf, Object , het Nieuwe Instituut, Glue, Beelden in Leiden and the SBK Sprouts exhibition.
